'The Way of Energy Harmonization' is most often thought of as 'soft' art, defensive in nature, which utilizes carefully co-ordinated body (and mind / ki) harmonization with an aggressor to secure a non-violent victory. Most people in most dojo practice in this manner. What isn't so widely known though is that the founder of aikido, Master Morihei Ueshiba, stated that 90% of his art was striking to vulnerable points, or using atemi waza. Similarly judo was originally a comprehensive art that incorporated striking techniques in the kata (though not in randori, or free practice).
In the video below you can see techniques combined with atemi waza to stop an aggressor, distract him and then subdue him with a lock.
