Antonio Carvalho, aka 'Pato', specializes in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as well as judo. He complements his grappling skills with stand up to compete in Mixed Martial Arts and Shooto (Shoot Fighting) matches. Here he demonstrates some basic ground and pound movements designed to increase your mobility and build power over a short distance. Your ability to generate power will be further curtailed through your body movement being hindered. In ground and pound you cannot use your ankles, legs and hips to generate force in the same you can when standing up and striking or kicking.
If you are training at home and are stuck for a heavy bag then try rolling up a carpet or a thick rug. Improvise with your training equipment until you get a feel for what you are doing, then you can better decide if you want to start spending money on something more professional.
