Velasquez explains that every fight is difficult and it requires an enormous amount of preparation for just that one moment. His future goal is to hold the belt for years and to keep on improving. He nobly points out that his award of Fighter of the Year 2010 deserves to go to his whole team. Right now he is getting surgery done but he plans on getting back into the gym as soon as possible and defending his belt.
