Morris Sensei examines some of the bunkai from this famous Shotokan karate kata. In particular he pays attention to the opening movements, demonstrating how effective Shotokan can be as a close quarters fighting system, and in apparent contradiction to the kickboxing style of sparring we usually see (which was itself influenced by kendo, hence the greater distance between the opponents). Take downs and arm bars are also demonstrated, again demonstrating the versatility of the style.
